ArgO FRCS

Welcome to the Argo FRCS Resource pages. These are not designed to give you the answers to the questions you may be asked in the FRCS (Tr & Orth) but to provide you with guidance as to what you are likely to be asked.

All of the material provided is based on real exam experiences from trainees that have successfully completed the FRCS (Tr & Orth), in both the new and old formats.

For the MCQ papers, the 3500+ questions provided via the Orthopaedic Hyperguide are excellent practice and are if anything, harder than those presented in the FRCS (Tr & Orth). Completing them in tutor mode so that you can review the explanations of the answers gives you both practice at MCQ's and knowledge.

For the Viva sections, the stems and subsequent lines of questioning are presented. This will give you an idea of both the breadth and depth of knowledge that may be asked. It is good practice to write out your model answer, with reference to texts for those questions you are unsure of. In this way, you will also develop your own set of study guides. The questions are presented in the same 4 station format as the exam vivas. Remember that the questioning gets harder the more successful the candidate becomes.

The short and long case sections are again presented as real scenarios for you to think about and prepare answers for.

Finally, the recommended reading and papers section provides you with a list (not comprehensive) of key papers and texts that are worth having knowledge of. It is not important to remember the authors, journals and dates of publications, but an idea of the key conclusions will serve you well.

We hope you find these resources useful, and wish you the best of luck,

ArgO
